Happy BIRTHday Bostyn

Monday was the day that we had been anticipating for the last 9 months. It was such a remarkable day...One of those days where you are living in it, and knowing, that it is one of the best days which holds so many emotions in which words cannot begin to describe.

As you remember from our prior blog, Heather's water had broken and brought us to the hospital at around 6pm on Sunday. Approximately 17 hours of labor later, the Dr. had decided that Bostyn was not going to come out on her own, which lead us into surgery for a C Section. Heather was exhausted at this point, and was not too excited about having to do the surgery, but we knew it was best for her and the baby. I did my best to support Heather through the prep and the surgery. She did not take to the meds well, causing her to throw up quite a bit, as she shook crazily, all due to the meds, but she hung in there, as Bostyn made her way out. At 10:49 am, we heard the words, "She is out." Heather and I both couldnt stop smiling. It is amazing that through chaos, pain, and trauma to the body, you somehow become oblivious to all of it, when you know the baby has arrived. Heather and I waited (for what seemed to be hours) to hear our little one let out her first cry. As soon as we heard it, our own tears started to flow. With Heather being numb from the chest down, she obviously was not able to see the baby on her own. So, as the doctors continued to work on Heather, I left her side to go be with our daughter, which is where Heather also wanted me to be. I welcomed our daughter into the world by cutting her umbilical cord, and also introducing her to her mom. Heather cried and gave her daughter lots of kisses, and told her, "I can't wait to hold you."

Even though I could go on and on about this experience, I will make yet another long story short, and sum it up by saying: The newest member to the Ackborn family arrived on 1/10/11 at 10:49 am, weighing in at 7.6 lbs. and was 20 3/4 inches in length. She has been such a blessing, and we can't get enough of her. Heather continues to heal from the surgery, and we plan to head home tomorrow morning. We simply can't wait to start this new journey with our daughter. We will continue to keep everyone updated, the best we can. We appreciate all the family and friends, who have supported us through all of this, with prayers, thoughts, well wishes, love, gifts, and generosity. Thank you everyone.
